Golf course photography; Everything to keep in mind when shooting

Golf course drone photography

Hi! In case we havn’t met yet my name is Morgan Dorsey; an aerial photographer based in Omaha, Nebraska. I have been doing aerial photography as a career since late March 2021. In this time I have been taking photos for tons of different people that might need it! From architect firms, construction companies, golf courses (what I am going to talk about in this article), and many more! I am going to try to help you figure out what golf courses are looking for in an aerial photographer. So let’s get into the thick of it! If you want more information about what I do feel free to check out my website for more!

Golf course photography made easy

  1. Get the specifics of what the client wants to make sure that you can give them what they want

This may seem like a very simple thing to put. However, clients are at the end of the day who you want to impress and give yourself a good reputation to get your name out there to lead to more clients. Do not let them tell you to get whatever you think looks best. This will inevitably lead to an unhappy client from my experience because they had a different vision in mind.

  2. Ask the client for featured holes or good shooting locations

This will eliminate some of the hard work that you have to do to find the good spots on the course. They will tell you the featured locations and this is what they are hoping to show off anyways then you do not have to go exploring to find featured locations. The best video shot that I have found out was low and slow over water. This always looks great on video; pro tip.

  3. Golf course’s are always looking for new ways to show off their golf course. They love showing hole by hole tours. This gives golfers coming in an idea of the places that they can and can not miss.

Golf courses are turning to aerial photographers to give new golfers a view of what their golf course can offer. Drone photography is the easiest way to show what the course looks like with out spending a minor fortune on paying a pilot to fly over the golf course.
