What is drone videography and why is it important?

Drone videography is the process of taking videos with a drone and editing them to make the footage look like an amazing final product. There is many different programs that can take drone footage to the next level; final cut pro, premiere pro, resolve, etc. But these programs can only do so much to save your footage. Here are some tips to get the best looking videos possible

  1. Choose the best time of day to shoot.

Shooting around sunrise or sunset (golden hour) are the best times to get footage. The lighting is much softer and the only things that you have to deal with are the semi-harsh shadows.

2. Make sure that you are shooting with the frame rate rule in mind

This rule is that your frame rate should be 1/2 of your ISO. This will give you the silkiest looking footage. This will make sure that none of the colors are incredibly faded out. By doing this you are allowed to have more freedom in post processing.

Here is a hyper lapse that I was able to capture of downtown Omaha!

3. Learn how to properly do a time lapse

Time lapses are the coolest things that are not utilized enough with drones. DJI makes an incredible set of drones that time lapses look amazing on. The gimbals allow them to go down to around a second of exposure time and the image still comes out perfectly still. If you can perfect these; you are well on your way to get great looking video! Another quick tip before I end this blog is to Learn how to properly color grade. It will work miracles for you; trust me.

Here is the Historic Old Market in downtown Omaha. Even though this video is only a couple shots; it has good framing and good color grading. Check out my youtube channel for more drone videos!
